About
Jan Johnson and Pat Wright formed GroundSwell Pictures in 2014 as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization with a four-pronged mission: to make films, show films, teach filmmaking, and support filmmakers through fiscal sponsorship.
With so many stories to tell, Jan and Pat put their collective talents to work in the non-profit world to help make films that change the way people see the world and the critical issues that shape our existence. From recovery efforts in Haiti to the effects of desegregation, and the Hollywood Blacklist to Child Pornography, GroundSwell Pictures is committed to educating the public and creating a groundswell of constructive change.
With your support, GroundSwell Pictures will continue to connect diverse groups of people through film in order to accomplish our goal of Producing Social Change.

Johnson and Wright (along with their “office manager” Sugar) restored a three-story building to create their offices and editing suites. For their efforts, they were honored with a Carraway Award from the Historic Preservation of NC. They garnered a second award for their film, After the Dust Settles, which focuses on the importance of historic preservation.
